The Blanket Exercise is an experience that will touch the heart of everyone who participates.  A journey woven through time that gives one much to reflect on about the true history of Indigenous People in Canada.  The care given by facilitators to ensure everyone involved has emotional support, and the chance for all participants to share adds to the richness of the experience.  I am grateful to have been part of such a deeply important, heartfelt experience – thank you Viola and team.

The Box & Circle

This is an additional exercise that may be added to the Real-Time Blanket Exercise to make your experience last all day. In the Box and Circle, we discuss and present the world view held by indigenous cultures and how it differs from the western world view. It is an in-depth teaching that demonstrates the contrasting and disparate methods of teaching, governance, and family structure, held by these two world views.

"The combination of the Blanket Exercise and the Box and Circle model was incredibly powerful — thoughtful, grounding, and emotionally resonant. This experience doesn’t just offer a historical overview; it brings the impact of Truth and Reconciliation into a deeply personal space. And that’s where real change begins. Several colleagues shared that although they had participated in other Blanket Exercises, this one — facilitated by Braving the Healing — reached them in a much more profound way. If we truly want to move our organizations and communities forward, we each have to take this personal journey. This experience is a compelling step on that path."

Elder Services

Viola and other Elders are able to perform Elder services. From saying a prayer, performing a smudge, or any other need you have for an elder, they are available to assist.

Many people ask Elders to open their events, or be available to offer insight during important meetings.

We acknowledge that we are located on Treaty 1 territory, the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe (Ojibwe), Ininew (Cree), Oji- Cree, Dene, and Dakota.  The birthplace of the Metis Nation and the heart of the Metis Nation Homeland.

"Our leaders need to show the way, but no matter how many deals and agreements they make, it is in our daily conversations and interactions that our success as a nation in forging a better place, will ultimately be measured. It is what we say to and about each other in public and in private that we need to look at changing."
-Honourable Justice and Senator Murray Sinclair, Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada
